Fabrication Manager - Marine Steel Workshop

About the role

A growing, family-owned business in O'Connor is looking for an experienced Fabrication Manager to take ownership of an established fabrication workshop. The workshop already has a dedicated space, a team of four fabricators and a strong pipeline of work, so the role is about rebuilding the division into a commercially driven operation. Initially the focus is on marine construction projects, such as specialist steel components for jetty construction.

Key responsibilities

• Take full ownership of the workshop and its day-to-day operations
• Manage production schedules, workflow and project deadlines
• Oversee job costing, labour allocation and commercial performance
• Ensure work is completed efficiently, to specification and within budget
• Lead and support the existing team of four employees and identify when extra staff are needed
• Seek new work and external fabrication opportunities during quieter periods
• Work with management and the wider marine construction team to coordinate priorities
• Build systems and processes to support the division's growth

Required profile

• Previous experience managing a fabrication workshop or similar production environment
• Strong understanding of fabrication processes and structural steelwork
• Proven experience with job costing, labour planning and commercial decision-making
• Experience in marine construction, structural steel or heavy fabrication highly regarded but not essential

What we offer

• Salary of circa $150k-$165k plus superannuation, depending on experience
