Experienced Geotechnical Engineer

About the role

SMEC, a member of the SJ Group, is looking for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join its Brisbane office. You will plan, analyse, and deliver geotechnical solutions on moderately complex projects, ensuring technical excellence and client satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver geotechnical analysis, design, and site‑investigation tasks in line with Australian standards and client requirements.
• Plan and execute engineering projects of reasonable complexity.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to ensure quality and timely delivery.
• Prepare technical reports, specifications, and proposals for small to medium‑sized projects.
• Manage project scope, risks, and priorities across multiple assignments.
• Contribute to the commercial success of projects and overall team performance.
• Apply sound project‑management principles to meet deliverables on time.
• Support and mentor junior engineers as required.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Civil or Geotechnical preferred).
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in geotechnical design and site investigations.
• Strong understanding of relevant Australian Standards and geotechnical practices.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
• Experience preparing technical documentation and reports.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Client‑focused mindset with the ability to manage expectations.
• Proficiency in relevant engineering software and general computer applications.
