Engineer – Dams & Hydropower

About the role

SMEC is seeking an Engineer to join its National Dams & Hydropower team in Brisbane. You will work alongside senior specialists on high‑profile dam and hydropower projects across Australia and New Zealand, gaining exposure to complex assets and building technical depth.

Key responsibilities

• Support senior engineers from conceptual through detailed design of water dams.
• Participate in dam safety reviews, inspections and condition assessments.
• Ensure all analysis and design comply with relevant technical standards, client requirements and SMEC quality systems.
• Collaborate proactively with multidisciplinary team members and external stakeholders to deliver high‑quality, timely project outcomes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or higher qualification).
• Minimum 2+ years post‑graduate experience on a range of dam types.
• Familiarity with Australian Standards and ANCOLD guidelines.
• Positive, can‑do attitude with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
