Employment Counsel

About the role

Axiom, a global leader in alternative legal services, is partnering with a respected university to hire an Employment Counsel. The role serves as the first point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, providing high‑quality legal advice on employment, disputes, complaints, and investigations.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a proactive service‑focused point of contact for HR, workplace relations, student conduct, and dispute matters.
• Provide legal and strategic advice on staff and student disputes, including negotiation, mediation, and management of court or tribunal proceedings.
• Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and deliver business‑focused legal training.
• Develop and maintain template documents, legal resources, and regular legal updates.
• Manage external legal advisers in line with organisational policies.

Required profile

• Significant experience as a lawyer in workplace relations, industrial relations, safety, discrimination, and administrative law; higher‑education sector experience is highly desirable.
• Proven ability to deliver timely, business‑relevant legal advice and collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
• High level of confidentiality, diplomacy, and influence with excellent interpersonal and time‑management skills.
• Ability to work autonomously in a fast‑paced team environment with a positive, can‑do attitude.
