About the role
Alcon is seeking an Electrical Engineering Technician to support the reliability, safety, and performance of production and test equipment used in manufacturing ophthalmic diagnostic devices, including OCT imaging systems. This 12‑month contract role involves hands‑on maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and equipment improvement in a medical‑technology manufacturing environment.
Key responsibilities
- Perform planned, preventive, and corrective maintenance on manufacturing and test equipment to maximise uptime and throughput.
- Troubleshoot electrical and electronic faults in production machinery, test fixtures, sensors, actuators, and control systems; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Support installation, commissioning, and re‑qualification of new or upgraded equipment, including wiring, functional checks, and handover to production.
- Calibrate and verify measurement equipment and production test rigs/fixtures to ensure operation within required specifications and traceability requirements.
- Interpret and work from engineering drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, specifications, and technical manuals.
- Assist with equipment improvements to enhance reliability, safety, and maintainability, such as control panels, PLC I/O, interlocks, and E‑stop circuits.
- Maintain accurate documentation including maintenance records, fault reports, calibration logs, and equipment history.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to support continuous improvement and production targets.
Required profile
- Diploma (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or Engineering Technology.
- Hands‑on experience maintaining and troubleshooting electrical/electronic systems in a manufacturing or test environment; med‑tech experience is advantageous.
- Strong fault‑finding skills across power, control, and instrumentation circuits.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams.
Required skills
- Use of multimeters and oscilloscopes for electrical testing.
- Experience with PLC I/O and control panel wiring.
- Knowledge of interlocks and E‑stop circuit design.
- Calibration of measurement and test equipment.
- Electrical and electronic troubleshooting.
- Schematics and wiring diagram interpretation.
