Electrical Design Engineer – Data Centres & Mission Critical

About the role

Design critical power systems for Australia’s growing data centre and mission‑critical infrastructure, from concept through construction.

Key responsibilities

• Develop MV/LV distribution, UPS, generator and redundancy solutions (N+1 / 2N) for data centre projects.
• Create single‑line diagrams, load schedules and comprehensive design documentation.
• Conduct power system studies such as load flow, fault level, protection coordination and arc‑flash analysis using tools like ETAP or DIgSILENT.
• Apply AS/NZS 3000 standards and coordinate connection applications with network service providers.
• Collaborate with clients, architects, mechanical and controls teams in design workshops.
• Mentor junior engineers and, in senior roles, lead design packages and multidisciplinary teams.

Required profile

• Degree in electrical engineering (essential).
• Registration such as CPEng, RPEQ or NER is highly regarded.
• Experience designing MV/LV power systems for large buildings, critical facilities or infrastructure.
• Exposure to power system studies and protection design.
• Strong client‑facing and collaborative skills.

Required skills

• MV/LV distribution design.
• UPS and generator system design.
• Redundancy planning (N+1, 2N).
• Single‑line diagram and load schedule production.
• Power system study tools: ETAP, DIgSILENT.
• Load flow, fault level, protection coordination and arc‑flash analysis.
• Knowledge of AS/NZS 3000 standards.
