EL1 Financial Accountant (Labour Hire)

About the role

A small Federal Government agency in Canberra is looking for an EL1 Financial Accountant or all-rounder for a 6 to 12-month labour hire placement with its finance team. The role covers the full financial accounting function, from transactional processing through to statutory reporting, and suits someone who wants end-to-end exposure across the finance function. Hybrid working (two days from home per week) is available after induction, and there is opportunity for extension or conversion to a permanent position.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a broad, generalist financial accounting function, including payments, banking and reconciliations
• Prepare journal entries, reconciliations and work papers
• Contribute to the preparation of Annual Financial Statements, including end-of-year journals and notes to the audited financial statements
• Deliver financial reporting and conduct payroll checks
• Support internal budget management and monthly performance reviews
• Help strengthen internal controls, segregation of duties and financial system integration

Required profile

• Strong combined financial and management accounting experience at EL1 level
• Ability to move flexibly across a wide range of operational finance activities
• Experience in a small, collaborative team and willingness to step in where needed
• Federal Government or Big 4/consulting background, including practical experience delivering financial statements within an APS context at EL1 or above

Required skills

• TechnologyOne or SAP (highly regarded)

What we offer

• Labour hire rate of $85-$102 per hour plus superannuation
• Non-ongoing rate of $120k-$143k plus 15.4% superannuation
• Hybrid working after induction
• Possibility of contract extension or conversion to permanent employment
