District Medical Officer – Procedural & Non‑Procedural (East Kimberley)

About the role

The District Medical Officer (DMO) pool supports WA Country Health Service in the East Kimberley region, delivering primary and emergency health services to remote Aboriginal communities. Based at Kununurra Hospital, the role combines hospital duties with scheduled outreach visits to surrounding towns.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive health care across Kununurra, Warmun, Halls Creek, Kalumburu and Wyndham.
• Deliver high‑acuity emergency care, including thrombolysis for cardiac arrest and emergency caesarean sections.
• Perform procedural tasks such as fracture reductions and obstetric interventions.
• Conduct regular outreach clinics and monthly obstetric visits to Halls Creek.
• Collaborate with remote area nurses, nurse practitioners, allied health, Aboriginal health workers and liaison officers.
• Utilise telehealth and the WACHS Command Centre for specialist support and rapid care coordination.

Required profile

• Medical degree with AHPRA registration and relevant specialist college assessment.
• Eligibility for Medical Practitioner (MP) Year 1‑6 positions or Rural Generalist training.
• Willingness to work in remote settings and undertake scheduled outreach.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
