Midwife / Sexual Health Nurse

About the role

Pramana Medical Centre is seeking an experienced Midwife or Sexual Health Nurse to join a 12‑month fixed‑term initiative aimed at preventing congenital syphilis. The role focuses on delivering flexible, culturally safe, trauma‑informed care to pregnant individuals facing complex social circumstances and barriers to antenatal services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide antenatal and/or sexual health nursing care to vulnerable pregnant individuals.
• Facilitate syphilis screening, diagnosis, treatment, follow‑up and partner notification.
• Deliver outreach and innovative models of care in community settings.
• Coordinate care and referrals to address social and health needs.
• Build relationships with maternity services, sexual health clinics, Aboriginal health services, primary care providers and community organisations.
• Contribute to program monitoring, evaluation and quality improvement activities.

Required profile

• Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Nurse and/or Midwife.
• Experience in midwifery, sexual health, antenatal care, public health or a related field.
• Strong understanding of sexually transmissible infections and/or maternal health.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills, especially with vulnerable or priority populations.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion and culturally responsive practice.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to work autonomously within a multidisciplinary team.
