Disability Support Worker

About the role

Coastlink, a not-for-profit Central Coast organisation, is seeking experienced, flexible and outgoing Disability Support Workers to support people with disabilities in their homes and in its Supported Independent Living (SIL) homes. The work covers individual supports such as accommodation and group homes, day programs, weekend work and after-school hours, with flexible hours including day, evening, weekend and overnight shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Provide professional support to clients so they can meet their goals and contribute to their care, health and wellbeing
• Support social engagement and inclusion in the community, and build social and communication skills through recreation and leisure activities
• Provide support in clients' homes and in Coastlink's SIL homes
• Record client activities effectively and transport clients to inclusive activities
• Work within the principles of person-centred practice

Required profile

• Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or similar, or relevant experience while working toward a qualification, or a Certificate III in Aged Care willing to complete four additional units
• Valid Australian driver's licence and current First Aid certificate
• NDIS Worker Screen Check and Working with Children Check
• Experience in manual handling, personal care, working with children, disability accommodation and people with challenging behaviours is encouraged; male support workers are particularly encouraged to apply

Required skills

• High level of written and verbal communication
• Knowledge of NDIS and NDIS Practice Standards
• Ability to represent Coastlink positively with service users, carers and the community
