Director, Policy and Strategy (Flexible)

About the role

The Director, Policy and Strategy for the First Nations Justice Office (FNJO) will shape and drive the strategic vision for criminal justice reform initiatives. This senior role provides leadership to a small team, coordinates cross‑agency projects, and builds strong relationships with judiciary, government departments, community organisations and Indigenous communities.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee a portfolio of FNJO initiatives, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
• Lead a small team, set priorities, and deliver the FNJO work program.
• Manage policy development, program design, implementation, reporting and oversight activities.
• Develop and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders, including judges, ministers, government agencies and community groups.
• Provide advice on submissions, briefs, ministerial correspondence, parliamentary questions and policy recommendations.
• Represent FNJO at inter‑departmental and inter‑agency meetings, ensuring effective consultation and collaboration.

Required profile

• Proven experience in policy development and strategic leadership within the justice or public sector.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and lead small multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills with government, judiciary and community organisations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for high‑level briefing and reporting.
