Director, People and Culture

About the role

The Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) in Adelaide is looking for a Director, People and Culture to join its executive team. This senior position will shape workforce strategy, drive organisational capability and champion a high‑performance, inclusive culture across the agency.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and leadership to the People and Culture branch, overseeing performance development, industrial relations, workforce reporting, compliance, job design, talent acquisition, recruitment and onboarding.
• Design and implement innovative workforce initiatives that align with DTF’s strategic objectives and future business needs.
• Advise senior executives on complex workforce matters, ensuring best‑practice approaches are applied.
• Develop and maintain legally compliant workforce policies, procedures and processes that support agility and public‑sector requirements.
• Lead Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I) strategies, including maintaining White Ribbon accreditation and promoting safety and wellbeing.
• Collaborate with branch heads and external public‑sector partners to deliver solutions that drive business outcomes.
• Mentor and develop the People and Culture team, providing guidance in a dynamic environment with competing priorities.
• Prioritise resources effectively to respond flexibly to agency needs while achieving efficient business outcomes.
• Champion contemporary organisational development practices that embed agility, inclusion, high performance and resilience.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in human resource management or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience leading modern workforce capability functions in a large, complex organisation.
• Proven ability to influence senior leaders and drive strategic change.
• Strong understanding of public‑sector employment legislation, industrial relations and compliance requirements.
• Experience developing and delivering equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
