About the role

The Director of Sustainability and Environment (APAC) leads the environmental and sustainability strategy for STACK’s data‑center developments across design, consent, construction readiness and operations. Reporting to the Senior Vice President Engineering APAC, the role coordinates consultants and multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance and performance.

Key responsibilities

  • Define environmental approval pathways for new sites, campus expansions and major design changes across APAC.
  • Lead environmental due diligence, identify approval risks and mitigation measures before acquisition or design commitment.
  • Develop design documents for local and state planning approvals in Victoria, New South Wales and other jurisdictions.
  • Act as the principal design‑side interface with EPA Victoria, NSW EPA, local councils and state planning departments.
  • Set scope, evidence standards and review processes for impact assessments, sustainability management plans and acoustic studies.
  • Direct and review specialist studies covering acoustics, air quality, contaminated land, water, waste, ecology, heritage and climate risk.
  • Lead integrated sustainability and building‑services ESD strategy from site selection through construction and operational handover.
  • Establish energy‑performance objectives, manage energy modelling and oversee sustainability‑rating and certification submissions.

Required profile

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in environmental science, engineering, planning, sustainability, law or related field.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in environmental and sustainable design, including approvals for large‑scale infrastructure.
  • Recent experience directing multidisciplinary consultancy teams or senior client‑side roles on data‑centre or similar projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Victorian and New South Wales approval systems and direct engagement with EPA and planning authorities.
  • Strong ability to produce and review technical reports, impact assessments and sustainability‑rating submissions.
