Director – Emergency Department

About the role

The Director of Emergency Medicine provides senior clinical and strategic leadership for the Emergency Department at Launceston General Hospital. Working closely with nursing and medical leaders, you will ensure safe, timely, patient‑centred care across a 24/7 service.

Key responsibilities

• Lead clinical and strategic direction of the Emergency Department.
• Oversee patient flow, workforce planning and service delivery.
• Drive clinical governance, safety, quality and performance improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with allied health, ambulance services and community partners.
• Support staff development and maintain high standards of emergency care.

Required profile

• Registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia in Emergency Medicine.
• Contemporary senior medical experience in Emergency Medicine within a complex acute setting.
• Advanced clinical judgement and decision‑making skills.
• Proven leadership, communication and collaboration abilities.
• Capability to lead service delivery, workforce planning, clinical governance and quality improvement.

• Fixed‑term, full‑time position (3‑year contract) – 76 hours per fortnight.
• Salary range $222,789 – $319,701 per annum, pro‑rata, plus 12% superannuation and salary packaging.
