Digital & Social Media Coordinator – Media & Digital Engagement

About the role

The Media and Digital Engagement team is seeking a creative Digital & Social Media Coordinator to shape and manage the Australian Electoral Commission’s digital presence across multiple platforms. You will help inform the community about electoral rights and responsibilities through engaging online content.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute digital and social media strategies for platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, X, Threads, LinkedIn and the AEC website.
• Create high‑quality visual and video content, including short‑form trend‑led videos and longer educational pieces.
• Perform social listening, reporting and community management on all AEC social channels.
• Support broader media and public‑relations activities as required.
• Handle moderately complex or sensitive communications work with limited supervision.

Required profile

• Proven experience in planning and delivering communication activities.
• Strong understanding of each social platform’s content performance and trends.
• Ability to script, film, star in and edit video content.
• Demonstrated autonomy, teamwork, personal drive and integrity.
• Resilience under pressure and readiness to support election‑time social media demands.

Required skills

• Capcut (or similar video editing software).
• Canva (or similar graphic design tool).
• Proficiency with major social media platforms (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, X, Threads, LinkedIn).
