Design/Project Manager - Ports

About the role

The Design/Project Manager will join AECOM’s Ports & Maritime team in Newcastle, leading design and delivery of ports, marine structures and coastal developments across NSW. You will work closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design management and delivery of ports and maritime infrastructure projects, including expansions and coastal developments.
• Manage end‑to‑end project outcomes: scope, programme, commercial performance and technical delivery.
• Act as primary client interface, building trusted relationships with port authorities, government and private sector clients.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across Newcastle, ANZ and the global network to deliver complex infrastructure projects.
• Provide leadership to design and delivery teams, ensuring high‑quality outcomes aligned with industry standards.
• Contribute to the growth of Ports & Maritime capability in Newcastle and NSW.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Project Manager, Design Manager or Senior Engineer in ports, coastal or maritime infrastructure.
• Strong experience managing multidisciplinary design teams on complex infrastructure projects.
• Track record of delivering projects in ports, marine structures or coastal environments.
• Confidence in client engagement and stakeholder management.
• Ability to lead work packages and drive outcomes across programme, cost and quality.
• Collaborative mindset with interest in growing a high‑performing local team.
