Design Manager – Aviation Building Engineering

About the role

AECOM is seeking an experienced Design Manager with strong aviation background to lead multidisciplinary building engineering design teams for complex airport terminal projects. The role can be based in Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne and offers flexible hybrid working arrangements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams across architecture, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, fire protection, ICT, security, acoustics and other specialist disciplines.
• Drive delivery of complex aviation projects, focusing on airport terminals and integration of building services within operational environments.
• Manage design coordination from concept through detailed design, resolving interfaces and conflicts to ensure integrated outcomes.
• Provide design leadership, manage risks, technical assurance, programme requirements and stakeholder expectations while maintaining quality and buildability.

Required profile

• Ideally 10+ years’ experience in building engineering, design or construction, progressing into design management or multidisciplinary project leadership.
• Proven experience delivering complex multidisciplinary projects, preferably with airport terminal or broader aviation experience.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, able to bring together diverse technical disciplines and drive decisions.

Required skills

• Understanding of multidisciplinary building design and interfaces between architecture, structure, MEP, fire, security and specialist engineering.
• Experience leading design teams, coordinating consultants and working directly with clients and key project stakeholders.
