Design Leader - Nuclear Submarine Construction Yard

About the role

Laing O'Rourke, together with its joint venture partner Amentum Australia, is supporting Australian Naval Infrastructure (ANI) to deliver the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Construction Yard (NPSCY) project at Osborne, South Australia. This project involves program and construction management of nuclear-related civil infrastructure, site-wide nuclear licensee development expertise and nuclear safety leadership. The Design Leader develops and leads the design capability on the project.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead the design capability on the project.
• Collaborate with project leaders to identify, assess and manage design risks, ensuring robust risk mitigation strategies are in place.
• Oversee the design process, including the formulation of design methodologies and the management of design and technical risks.
• Provide continuous oversight and run regular design health checks to ensure adherence to design standards and project objectives.

Required profile

• Degree in an engineering discipline (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Geotechnical) with Chartered Professional Engineer status or equivalent.
• Advanced experience in the design, engineering or construction field.
• Previous experience in the high-risk construction industry.
• Australian citizenship and ability to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance at NV1 level.
