Design Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Design Engineer to take specifications, develop concepts and turn them into manufacturable products. You will work across the full product development lifecycle, from 3D design through prototyping, testing, validation and release, supporting NHP’s growth in electrical and automation solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Own product design from specification and concept through detailed design, validation and release.
• Create and manage 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, release packs and technical documentation.
• Support prototyping, testing, validation and design refinement to achieve robust outcomes.
• Apply engineering calculations, DFM, value engineering and cost optimisation to inform design decisions.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Commercial Engineering and external manufacturing partners to ensure feasibility and compliance.
• Use PLM systems to manage CAD files, revisions, BOMs and engineering change records.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Product Design Engineering or related discipline.
• 5–10 years’ experience in product design and development within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Accredited degree and eligibility to work towards Chartered Status with Engineers Australia.

Required skills

• Strong 3D CAD capability, preferably CREO.
• Experience with PLM tools and engineering change processes.
• Knowledge of Design for Manufacture (DFM), value engineering and cost optimisation.
• Prototyping, testing and validation expertise.
• Ability to produce accurate component and assembly drawings.
