Debt Recovery Paralegal

About the role

A mid-size full-service law firm based in Brisbane City is hiring an experienced debt recovery paralegal for its busy practice. The firm gives commercial, client-centred advice to corporations, government departments and individuals, and offers solutions that clients can understand.

Key responsibilities

• Draft legal documents across Australian jurisdictions, such as commencing claims, obtaining judgments and enforcing them through various enforcement processes
• Draft correspondence to the Court, defendants and solicitors
• Run files under supervision, managing critical deadlines
• Obtain client instructions and act on them according to internal service standards
• Handle account-related duties, including processing third-party disbursements such as process server fees
• Perform general administrative duties such as diary and file management, including filing, bringing up, opening and archiving files
• Work collaboratively with the litigation partner and team

Required profile

• Experience in unsecured debt collection, debt recovery processes and litigation
• Good understanding of Court Rules, including enforcement processes
• Ability to manage your own file load with the support of the paralegal manager and lawyers
• Commercial approach: able to articulate and negotiate effectively, with excellent communication skills
• Ability to work independently and autonomously within a team, with an open and collaborative approach
