Data Lead

About the role

Airtree Ventures is seeking a Data Lead to own and scale its data infrastructure, enabling data‑driven decision‑making across its venture capital operations. This full‑time, permanent role is based in Sydney and works closely with investment, fund strategy, investor relations and finance teams.

Key responsibilities

• Optimise and scale the Snowflake data warehouse to meet growing data needs.
• Enhance and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines built with dbt and AWS Lambda, improving performance and reliability.
• Refine and expand AWS Lambda functions for data processing and integration.
• Collaborate with investment partners to evolve data‑driven tools for sourcing opportunities.
• Lead analysis and reporting of portfolio companies, streamlining quarterly reporting.
• Iterate on dashboards and insight packs built with Streamlit to deliver actionable insights.
• Identify and implement improvements in data models and infrastructure using best practices.
• Champion data‑driven decision‑making across the organisation.

Required profile

• Passion for solving problems efficiently in fast‑paced environments.
• Curiosity and a strong “why” mindset.
• Proficient programming skills, especially Python, and advanced SQL knowledge.
• Hands‑on experience or strong interest in Snowflake, dbt, and AWS Lambda.
• Understanding of financial and investment concepts or desire to learn VC industry.
• Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
