Data Engineer

About the role

As a Data Engineer you will join the Data Platform team at Samsara Eco to help build the Industrial AI Platform that powers our infinite plastic recycling process. You will work closely with scientific, engineering and computation teams to bring experiment, process‑modelling and production data into a unified, observable, and scalable data platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain ingestion pipelines from ELN, SharePoint, laboratory instruments, physics simulations, production line and process‑engineering sources.
• Support live ingestion of production‑line data, including integration with data historian systems.
• Ensure pipelines preserve source context, timestamps, identifiers and provenance.
• Partner with instrument owners and analytics teams to connect key laboratory instruments to the platform.
• Assist lab automation initiatives such as barcode handling, inventory tracking and workflow data capture.
• Create observable, testable pipelines that can evolve with changing source systems.
• Collaborate with the broader Data Team to transform raw data into trusted production‑layer datasets and document system behaviours and limitations.

Required profile

• Experience building and operating data ingestion pipelines for diverse scientific and production sources.
• Ability to work onsite in Jerrabomberra and hold a valid Australian visa.
• Strong collaboration skills to work with cross‑functional teams including scientists, engineers and analysts.
• Attention to data provenance, quality and observability.

Required skills

• ELN (Electronic Lab Notebook) integration
• SharePoint data extraction
• Data historian integration
• Laboratory instrument connectivity
• Physics simulation data handling
