Data Analyst - AI & Machine Learning

About the role

A Federal Government environment in Melbourne is looking for an experienced Data Analyst / Data Engineer to support AI and machine learning initiatives. The role uses data analytics to help design, develop, deploy and continuously improve AI and ML solutions, working with technical teams and business stakeholders. It is advertised as a 9-month contract with a possible 12-month extension, with mandatory Australian citizenship and an NV1 security clearance.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, cleanse and prepare structured and unstructured data for analytics and machine learning.
• Run exploratory data analysis to find trends, patterns and opportunities for AI-driven outcomes.
• Build and maintain datasets, features and data pipelines for machine learning models.
• Work with data scientists, AI engineers and business stakeholders to define AI/ML use cases and requirements.
• Check data quality, integrity and suitability for machine learning.
• Help develop, test and validate predictive, classification and forecasting models, and monitor their performance.
• Automate reporting and analytical workflows and document processes and models in line with governance and compliance.
• Research emerging AI, machine learning and data analytics technologies.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience as a Data Analyst supporting advanced analytics, AI or machine learning.
• Experience with structured and unstructured datasets and data pipelines.
• Understanding of machine learning concepts, model validation and performance monitoring.
• Ability to turn business requirements into data-driven insights; strong stakeholder engagement and communication.
• Documentation and governance experience in complex environments; Agile team experience highly desirable.
• Mandatory: onsite attendance in Clayton, Victoria four days per week, Australian citizenship and NV1 clearance.
