Cyber Security Engineer – Hybrid (Sydney)

About the role

Our Government client is seeking a highly capable Cyber Security Engineer to support a major cyber uplift programme across the organisation. The role will involve close collaboration with internal staff, external vendors and stakeholders to improve cyber hygiene and implement the Essential Eight framework.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver technical maturity assessments of the organisation's current cybersecurity posture.
• Develop and execute treatment plans for identified gaps, focusing on sustainable uplift projects.
• Provide subject‑matter expertise and advice on IT risk management and cybersecurity solutions.
• Stay up‑to‑date with emerging threats, trends and technologies, recommending appropriate mitigations.
• Contribute to reusable cybersecurity architecture patterns and guidelines.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience with Linux and Windows operating systems.
• Demonstrated experience with the Essential Eight framework, Privileged Access Management (PAM) and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solutions.
• Experience with CrowdStrike is desirable.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with cross‑functional teams.
• Based in the Greater Sydney area with full Australian working rights.

What we offer

• Contract role until 18/12/2026 with high likelihood of extension.
• Hybrid work model – 3 days onsite at Macquarie Park, the remainder remote.
• Daily rate of $900‑$950 plus superannuation.
