CSR Engineer – Rail & Metro

About the role

SMEC is seeking experienced Combined Services Route (CSR) Engineers to join its rail team in Australia. The role involves leading CSR delivery across multidisciplinary rail projects in Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne, ensuring high‑quality design that meets client and industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop CSR designs that comply with relevant technical standards, Australian Standards and client requirements.
• Collaborate proactively with multidisciplinary teams, project managers, clients and stakeholders to produce coordinated designs.
• Apply project management principles to deliver project deliverables on time.
• Lead the CSR package and ensure integration with other disciplines.
• Support safety‑in‑design considerations and address construction, maintenance and operations needs.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in rail utility engineering and design within an engineering design consultancy.
• Demonstrated experience delivering major CSR designs on rail infrastructure projects in Australia or New Zealand.
• Strong communication skills and ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of rail utility engineering and design according to AMB and Australian Standards.
• Proficiency in 3D BIM modelling of CSR routes using software such as 12D, Civil 3D and Navisworks.
• Understanding of Safety in Design principles.
