Consultant – Public Affairs & Strategic Communications

About the role

FTI Consulting is seeking a Consultant to join its Strategic Communications team in Melbourne. The role is ideal for candidates with 1‑3 years of experience in corporate reputation, public affairs, ESG or media, who enjoy varied, high‑impact work.

Key responsibilities

• Research and write client briefs, media releases and other collateral, and conduct stakeholder mapping.
• Support strategy and message development for client engagements across public affairs, ESG and corporate reputation.
• Assist the ESG team with reporting, materiality assessments and climate governance advisory.
• Contribute to new‑business initiatives, including prospect research and proposal preparation.
• Participate actively in internal and client meetings and stay current on industry trends.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of experience in corporate/public affairs, ESG or related fields.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, law, communications, journalism or a related discipline.
• Strong writing, research and analytical abilities with attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple client accounts and prioritize tasks effectively.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
• Experience with social media platforms, digital media tools, media monitoring and analytics.
• Familiarity with AI tools for research and content creation (preferred).
