Consultant Neonatologist

About the role

Western Health is seeking an experienced Consultant Neonatologist to join the Neonatal Medicine team at Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital. You will work in a purpose‑built 39‑cot facility, delivering high‑quality care to newborns in a high‑volume division.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership for complex neonatal cases and develop evidence‑based treatment protocols.
• Mentor and supervise junior medical staff and registrar trainees, ensuring safe and compassionate care.
• Collaborate with obstetricians, Maternal‑Fetal Medicine specialists and allied health professionals to optimise patient outcomes.
• Analyse clinical data to improve length of stay and support departmental growth.

Required profile

• Specialist postgraduate qualification (CCT or CCST in Paediatrics) with sub‑specialty accreditation in Neonatal Medicine.
• At least 5 years of post‑qualification clinical consultant experience.
• Relevant South African qualifications (FCPaed(SA), MMed(Paed)) or equivalent are acceptable.

Required skills

• Neonatal ultrasound scanning (desirable).
• Ability to interpret and apply clinical data for service improvement.
