Consultant Archaeologist

About the role

Beca is seeking a Consultant Archaeologist to deliver Aboriginal heritage projects across renewable energy, transport, water, social infrastructure and defence sectors in Australia. You will work within the Planning & Environment team, contributing to complex projects while engaging with Aboriginal stakeholders and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare high‑quality technical reports such as Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessments, Due Diligence Assessments, Heritage Impact Assessments and excavation reports.
• Support consultation and engagement with Aboriginal stakeholders, including Registered Aboriginal Parties and Local Aboriginal Land Councils.
• Participate in field surveys, test excavations and salvage operations across diverse NSW landscapes.
• Assist with project management activities including scope delivery, scheduling, budgeting and coordination of field programs.

Required profile

• Bachelor (Honours) or Master’s degree in Archaeology with a focus on Aboriginal archaeology.
• Experience in Aboriginal cultural heritage assessment and community consultation within Australia, preferably in a consultancy environment.
• Ability to work on‑site, travel to remote locations and hold a valid Australian driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Proficiency with GIS software (ArcGIS Pro or QGIS) for mapping and data management.
• Strong knowledge of State and Commonwealth heritage legislation, regulations and guidelines.
