Compliance Officer (Animal Management)

About the role

Join Ipswich City Council as a Compliance Officer within the Animal Management and Biosecurity team. You will help keep the community safe by applying local laws and the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008, conducting investigations and providing clear advice to residents.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate animal management matters, gather evidence, take statements and conduct interviews.
• Provide practical advice to customers, community members and stakeholders on compliance issues.
• Apply Council procedures, policies and relevant legislation to matters such as dog attacks, registrations and noise complaints.
• Conduct field‑based property inspections, liaising with owners and occupiers about legislative compliance and enforcement.

Required profile

• Strong judgement and ability to interpret legislation.
• Experience or interest in compliance or regulatory functions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for handling sensitive situations.
• Effective time‑management and ability to prioritise competing tasks.
• Resilience, adaptability and a collaborative team approach.
• Certificate IV in Government Investigations or equivalent experience.
