Community Lawyer – African Australian Assistance Project

About the role
The Community Lawyer will provide culturally responsive legal services to African Australian communities in Melbourne’s West, supporting the African Australian Assistance Project and outreach clinics.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct advice appointments with African Australian clients on a range of legal issues.
- Deliver duty lawyer services, case work, advocacy and community legal education.
- Provide legal support through outreach‑based clinics and Health Justice Partnerships.
- Identify systemic legal issues and contribute to law reform initiatives under senior legal guidance.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high‑quality service delivery.
Required profile
- Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor.
- Current Victorian Legal Practising Certificate (or eligibility to obtain one).
- Minimum two years post‑admission legal experience.
- Knowledge of African Australian communities and a commitment to social justice.
- Ability to work with vulnerable and marginalised groups.
