Communications Consultant – Financial Services

About the role

Phronesis is seeking a seasoned communications professional to join its Sydney office as a Consultant. You will work with financial and professional services clients, helping them shape reputation, manage crises, and drive media coverage. The role combines strategic advisory, hands‑on execution, and mentorship of junior team members.

Key responsibilities

• Lead client accounts with accountability, integrity and transparency.
• Mentor and develop junior communications staff.
• Provide trusted, strategic counsel to corporate and government clients.
• Design and implement communications strategies that deliver commercial results.
• Step into issues and crisis briefs as needed for existing and new clients.
• Drive media relations, set news agendas and place stories proactively.
• Contribute to new‑business development and agency growth.
• Develop proprietary research, operating models and other IP for Phronesis.

Required profile

• 6‑10 years of corporate affairs experience in financial or professional services.
• Strong media‑relations capability.
• Ability to quickly learn client businesses and industries.
• Willingness to take on tasks outside the usual scope.
• Grit, pragmatism and a proactive problem‑solving attitude.
• Ambition for personal and team success.
