Commercial Officer

About the role

BAE Systems is seeking a Commercial Officer to support commercial activities within the Surface Ships Business Unit, specifically for the Combat Systems line of business. You will help deliver optimal commercial outcomes for the Australian Defence Forces and our customers while contributing to the broader defence, aerospace and security mission.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in managing and administering bids and contracts.
• Support procurement and supply‑chain teams with sub‑contract terms and conditions.
• Develop commercial proposals and review full proposal documentation.
• Provide commercial input for Life Cycle Management and Request for Bid Approval processes.
• Prepare draft quotations, NDAs, contract change proposals, technical assistance agreements, service level agreements, and other commercial documents in line with policy.
• Draft and manage incoming and outgoing customer correspondence.
• Liaise with the internal legal team to ensure contracts meet governance requirements.
• Respond to customer queries, clarify requirements and escalate issues when necessary.
• Support the Commercial Manager and other team members as required.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a similar commercial or business‑operations role.
• Flexible, lean‑in approach with strong team orientation.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills for internal and external stakeholders.
• Curious mindset and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
