Commercial Officer

About the role

BAE Systems is seeking a Commercial Officer to join the Surface Ships Business Unit in Adelaide. The role supports commercial activities for the Combat Systems line, ensuring optimal outcomes for the Australian Defence Forces and our customers. You will work closely with procurement, legal and engineering teams to manage contracts, bids and commercial proposals.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in managing and administering bids and contracts throughout their lifecycle.
• Support procurement and supply‑chain colleagues by preparing sub‑contract terms and conditions.
• Develop commercial proposals and review full proposal documentation for new business opportunities.
• Provide commercial input for Life Cycle Management and Request for Bid Approval processes.
• Draft quotations, Non‑Disclosure Agreements, Contract Change Proposals, Technical Assistance Agreements and Service Level Agreements in line with policy.
• Handle incoming and outgoing customer correspondence and coordinate with the internal legal team to ensure proper governance.
• Respond to customer requirements, clarify queries and escalate issues when necessary.
• Support the Commercial Manager and other team members as required.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a commercial, contract or business‑operations role.
• Ability to work flexibly with a “lean‑in” approach and strong team orientation.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills for interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
• Curious mindset with the capacity to work independently and exercise sound judgement.
