Cloud Network Solution Architect

About the role

TAL, a life insurer, is looking for a Cloud Network Solution Architect in Sydney. The role shapes the cloud network architecture, standards and technical roadmap, focusing on cloud modernisation and secure, resilient connectivity across cloud and hybrid environments. It leads solution design across connectivity, segmentation, routing, DNS, edge security and traffic management, working with architecture, cyber security, identity and delivery teams.

Key responsibilities

• Own the target-state cloud network architecture, standards, reference patterns and technical roadmap.
• Lead the move from legacy on-premises infrastructure to cloud-native and managed services, including hybrid and multi-cloud solutions.
• Define and govern application and infrastructure migrations, including dependency mapping, migration planning, cutover, operational readiness and decommissioning.
• Design cloud and hybrid network solutions covering connectivity, segmentation, routing, DNS, private connectivity, shared network services and traffic management.
• Design resilient architectures with redundancy, failover, recovery, monitoring and disaster recovery capabilities.
• Embed secure-by-design principles, including network security, access controls, encryption, data protection and automated security guardrails.
• Ensure compliance with technology risk requirements and regulations such as APRA CPS 230, CPS 234, Zero Trust, ISO 27001 and the ACSC Essential Eight.
• Provide technical direction to engineering and delivery teams, assure partner and vendor solutions and communicate architecture decisions and trade-offs to stakeholders.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience in technology architecture, cloud engineering or infrastructure, including significant experience in a cloud architecture or senior solution design role.
• Demonstrated experience designing and delivering large-scale cloud migration, modernisation or data centre exit programs, including hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
• Strong knowledge of high availability, disaster recovery, backup and recovery, monitoring and operational resilience.
• Experience establishing architecture standards, patterns and decision records, with knowledge of ISO 27001, NIST, ACSC Essential Eight, APRA CPS 230 and CPS 234.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, able to turn complex architecture, security, cost and risk considerations into clear business outcomes.

Required skills

• Hands-on expertise in Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud, with strong Azure experience highly regarded.
• Cloud networking: landing zones, hybrid connectivity, routing, DNS, segmentation, firewalls and secure platform foundations.
• Infrastructure-as-code such as Terraform or Bicep, CI/CD pipelines, policy-as-code, cloud APIs and scripting with PowerShell, Python or similar.
• Zero Trust, identity and access management, secrets management and encryption.
