Clinical Nurse Paediatric Surgery

About the role

The Clinical Nurse (CN) role provides advanced clinical and problem-solving skills, expert planning and coordination in the clinical management of children with complex care needs at QCH, Mater NICU and RBWH NICU, while maintaining quality standards. It covers patients with complex surgical care, including bowel and bladder stomas, surgical urology, complex wounds, pressure injuries and surgical gastrostomies, including neonates under the PSUB team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate care covering the psychological, social, emotional, spiritual and physical needs of each patient, following the nursing Professional Practice Model, quality frameworks and the Planetree philosophy of caring.
• Account for adherence to NMBA and own standards, and for the outcomes of own practice and delegated activities.
• Follow guidelines, protocols and standards set by the general surgical and stomal therapy nursing service, CHQHHS and the Queensland Department of Health.
• Delegate to and supervise RNs, ENAs, USINs, ENs and AINs in line with the NMBA decision-making framework.
• Act as a clinical and educational resource, keeping up to date with specialist nursing knowledge and competence.
• Take part in quality initiatives, clinical audits, clinical trials and research, and provide clinical leadership with integrity, transparency and accountability.
