Civil Engineer – Highways (Engineer I)

About the role

Arup is seeking a Highways Engineer to join its Brisbane team, delivering innovative road and transport infrastructure projects for government, contractor and private sector clients. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to design, document and support the delivery of high‑quality, sustainable infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver design and documentation of highway and transport projects from concept through detailed design.
• Prepare technical reports, specifications, cost estimates and contribute to tender submissions.
• Collaborate with project managers, clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to ensure high‑quality engineering solutions.
• Manage assigned tasks, track progress and uphold quality, health and safety standards.
• Support digital engineering initiatives and continuous improvement across the team.

Required profile

• Recognised tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Membership or progress towards membership of a relevant professional institution.
• Experience in highway engineering design with knowledge of Queensland Transport and Main Roads (TMR) requirements.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to build effective stakeholder relationships.
• Proactive attitude, commitment to continuous learning and passion for sustainable engineering solutions.

Required skills

• Proficiency in 12d Model.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and associated road, drainage, utilities and 3D coordination modelling software.
