Civil Construction Worker – Road Services

About the role

Yarra City Council is looking for a skilled Civil Construction Worker to join its Road Services Unit. You will operate heavy machinery and support a range of civil construction and road maintenance activities, helping to keep the municipality’s infrastructure safe and functional.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and repair roads, footpaths, kerbs, channels and drainage systems.
• Assist with concreting, asphalting and bluestone works.
• Operate excavators, skid steers and other heavy equipment for excavation, grading, levelling, spreading and compaction.
• Respond to reactive maintenance requests and address safety hazards.
• Maintain accurate records of work completed and equipment usage.
• Support traffic management and site safety set‑ups.
• Inspect and maintain street signage and street furniture.

Required profile

• Experience in civil construction, including asphalt, concrete and bluestone works.
• Proficiency in operating heavy machinery such as excavators and skid steers.
• Strong understanding of safety procedures and site protocols.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• HR licence (essential); traffic management qualifications (preferred).
