Child and Family Practitioner

About the role

The Child and Family Practitioner provides holistic, therapeutic support to vulnerable children, young people and families within the Family Intervention Service in Cairns. This home‑based role focuses on case management and intensive support to help families reunify or remain safely together.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality, best‑practice services to children and families involved in the child protection system.
• Provide intensive support for safe reunification after out‑of‑home care or work with parents under an Intervention with Parental Agreement.
• Manage cases, conduct therapeutic interventions and maintain accurate records.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification (minimum bachelor’s degree) in a relevant human services field.
• Relevant experience working with children and families; child protection experience preferred.
• Current driver’s licence and Working with Children Check (Blue Card).

Required skills

• Demonstrated ability to achieve results through personal proficiency and high‑quality professional work.
• Strong knowledge of child and family welfare practices.
