Chief Operating Officer

About the role

The Chief Operating Officer will lead Spirit of Tasmania’s ferry operations, overseeing marine, terminal and passenger onboard functions across a 24/7, safety‑critical environment. Reporting to the CEO, this senior leader will drive safe, reliable and efficient services while supporting major transformation projects.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for ferry services in Devonport and Geelong.
• Manage large, regulated workforces and ensure compliance with safety and industry standards.
• Lead organisational change, major projects and integration of new‑generation vessels.
• Build trusted relationships with regulators, unions, contractors, government and industry partners.

Required profile

• Executive experience leading complex, highly regulated operations with large teams.
• Strong commercial and financial acumen, with proven change‑management capability.
• Ability to unite diverse teams and balance customer, commercial and operational priorities.

Required skills

• Leadership of safety‑critical, 24/7 transport operations.
• Stakeholder management across regulators, unions and government.
