Chaplain – Residential Aged Care

About the role

Anglicare Sydney is seeking a Chaplain for its residential aged care home, Elizabeth Lodge, in Rushcutters Bay. The role provides Christ-centred spiritual leadership and pastoral care to residents, their families and staff, working alongside Pastoral Carers and the multidisciplinary care team. It is a specifically Christian ministry role.

Key responsibilities

• Provide pastoral care through visitation, prayer, Bible teaching, preaching and church services
• Build relationships with residents and give spiritual care responsive to their individual needs and preferences
• Encourage Christian residents in their faith while offering opportunities for others to explore it
• Support residents living with dementia and those approaching end of life, as well as their families
• Work with Pastoral Carers, Home Management and the multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic, person-centred care

Required profile

• A strong, personal and active Christian faith
• Relevant theological training
• Ordination by, or recognition as a Minister of the Archbishop of, the Anglican Diocese of Sydney
• Demonstrated effectiveness in pastoral ministry, especially with older people
• Ongoing membership and active participation in a local Evangelical Church
• Warm, relational and mature Christian leader with good listening and trust-building skills

Preferred

• Previous experience in ministry, pastoral care and/or aged care
• Experience supporting grief, loss, dementia and end-of-life care
• Experience in a multidisciplinary care environment

Required skills

• Appropriate computer skills
• Current valid driver's licence and access to your own vehicle
• Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality
