Casual Primary and High School Teacher (Autism Education)

About the role

Aspect (Autism Spectrum Australia), a not-for-profit provider of autism-specific education, is recruiting casual relief teachers for its Western Sydney School. The school serves about 145 students on the autism spectrum from kindergarten to year 12, with its main site in Wetherill Park and satellite classes in Springwood, Richmond, Schofields, Blacktown and Penrith. Positions are available for both primary and high school teachers.

Key responsibilities

• Create a learning environment tailored to the individual needs of students, using evidence-informed best practice in autism education
• Work in a team of educators, the student, family, teacher aide and professionals such as a school psychologist, speech therapist and occupational therapist to design and deliver learning programs
• Support students to learn in the way that suits them best, within small class sizes and with the help of a dedicated teacher aide

Required profile

• NESA registration to teach in NSW, both primary and high school
• Availability to work as a casual relief teacher across the various locations
• Preferred: special education qualifications and experience working with students on the autism spectrum or with other intellectual disabilities
• Preferred: NSW Working with Children Check clearance for paid employment; a current driver's licence may be essential depending on location
• Flexibility to work across multiple locations
