Business Partner Lead, Finance - Global Water & Environment

About the role

SMEC, part of the SJ Group, is seeking an experienced Business Partner Lead, Finance to lead financial performance and provide strategic financial leadership for its Global Water & Environment Sector, based in the Melbourne office. Working closely with the sector leadership team, the role oversees project financial data, reporting, analysis, budgeting and forecasting, and contributes to commercial risk management, governance and system improvements. It sits within the ANZ Region's finance team.

Key responsibilities

• Manage detailed, accurate and reliable financial data for the sector, enabling timely reporting and robust analysis
• Analyse commercial, financial and project performance, identify risks and opportunities and advise on profitability and project outcomes
• Lead financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling for key projects and initiatives
• Partner with sector leadership and Finance leads across the Group to drive performance and strategic priorities
• Promote financial governance, project controls and commercial risk management
• Improve financial processes, systems and operational efficiencies
• Build relationships with internal stakeholders and external clients
• Lead, mentor and develop the I+E Finance team
• Contribute to business-wide projects and the ANZ Region's finance activities

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce, Economics or a related discipline
• Further qualifications in Business Management, such as an MBA, highly regarded
• Proven experience in a comparable finance leadership or business partnering role in a corporate environment
• Experience developing profitable strategies and leading, mentoring and developing finance professionals
• Strong commercial acumen, stakeholder relationships and integrity with confidential information
