Boilermaker – Rolling Mills Maintenance

About the role

A major steel manufacturer in Laverton, Victoria, is looking for a boilermaker to join its Rolling Mills maintenance team. The work covers equipment repairs, fabrication and shutdown tasks, and the role is advertised as a six-month temporary assignment with a view to permanent employment, subject to performance and business needs.

Key responsibilities

• TIG, MIG and ARC welding on plant maintenance and fabrication tasks
• Repairing and replacing steel components, guards, chutes, hoppers and brackets
• Reading engineering drawings to cut, fabricate and assemble components accurately
• Oxy cutting, grinding, preparing and finishing steel
• Supporting breakdown repairs, planned maintenance and shutdowns
• Working alongside mechanical fitters to improve equipment safety and reliability
• Following isolation, hot work permit and site safety procedures

Required profile

• A recognised Boilermaker trade qualification
• Hands-on experience in heavy industry such as steel manufacturing, smelting, mining or quarrying
• Proven proficiency in TIG, MIG and ARC welding
• Strong fabrication and equipment repair skills
• Confidence interpreting engineering drawings and working to specifications
• A practical approach to problem-solving and a strong commitment to safety
• Australian citizenship; applicants must pass a full pre-employment medical, drug and alcohol screening, physical assessment and trade/aptitude testing

What we offer

• $66.12 per hour plus 16.5% superannuation and income protection
• Monday to Friday day shift, 6:00am to 2:30pm, with evenings and weekends free from the roster
• Opportunity to move into permanent employment after six months
