Back‑End Software Engineer – Java & Cloud

About the role

Join Qantas' new Product Innovation Centre in Adelaide as a Back‑End Software Engineer. You will design, build and maintain robust, scalable systems that deliver seamless digital experiences for our customers, leveraging cutting‑edge technologies and cloud‑native architectures.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and enhance backend services using Java, Spring Boot and micro‑service patterns.
• Design, implement and optimise APIs, event‑driven workflows and message‑queue integrations.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure reliability, performance and security of production systems.
• Participate in code reviews, testing and continuous integration/continuous deployment pipelines.
• Mentor junior developers and contribute to technical best‑practice documentation.

Required profile

• 3+ years of hands‑on software engineering experience.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset with a passion for clean code and quality.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
