AWS Installation Technician

About the role

Chandler Macleod is recruiting multiple AWS Installation Technicians for a Federal Government agency to support a major national upgrade of the Automatic Weather Station (AWS) network, covering 750+ sites across Australia and offshore territories. It is a hands-on, project-based field role installing, upgrading and commissioning weather-observation infrastructure that supports forecasts and warnings for communities, emergency services, industry and government. You will work from one of several maintenance hubs and travel to regional and remote locations to deliver safe, standardised, right-first-time installations.

Required profile

• Proven field installation and commissioning experience in a technical environment
• Strong hands-on capability: installation, configuration, calibration checks, acceptance testing and commissioning
• Fault-finding and defect rectification during rollout and stabilisation
• High safety focus, comfortable in remote and challenging environments
• Strong documentation skills (installation reports, commissioning records, defect logs) and asset recording in systems such as Maximo
• Ability to work independently and within structured rollout teams, and engage stakeholders such as site access providers, landholders and contractors
• Preferred: Certificate III (AQF level 3 or above) in electronics or electrical, or comparable overseas qualification; a Diploma in electronics/electrical is advantageous
• Required: Australian citizenship, current driver's licence, ability to pass a medical assessment, eligibility to obtain ASIC and/or MSIC, and willingness to travel regularly across NSW, VIC, SA, WA, TAS, NT and QLD
• Nice to have: solar power systems, remote telemetry and communications, field commissioning in distributed networks, and experience in a maintenance organisation
• Ability or willingness to obtain Working at Heights, Remote First Aid and 4WD operation and maintenance
