Automation Lead - Insurance Quality Engineering

About the role

EY's Technology Consulting, TC Managed Services team is looking for an Automation Lead to lead quality engineering initiatives across modern insurance platforms. The role is based in Melbourne or Sydney in a hybrid arrangement, shaping quality strategy across multiple squads and releases, from requirements through to production deployment. It covers end-to-end assurance of customer-facing digital platforms, Guidewire applications, APIs and integrated enterprise systems, and leads automation and quality transformation with mentoring of QA teams.

Key responsibilities

• Define and run test strategies, test plans, quality gates and release-readiness activities across projects and delivery streams.
• Lead functional and automation testing teams, providing mentoring, coaching and technical guidance.
• Manage functional, integration, system, regression, UAT, API and automation testing.
• Drive adoption of Playwright automation frameworks and set automation standards, best practices and governance.
• Own test estimation, resource planning, execution tracking, requirements traceability, test coverage and defect management.
• Review test plans, scenarios, automation scripts, evidence and defects, and validate Quote, Policy, Claims, Billing, Renewals, Endorsements and Underwriting workflows.
• Validate end-to-end customer journeys across web apps, Guidewire platforms, APIs and third-party integrations.
• Lead automation and AI proofs of concept, and drive the automation roadmap to improve regression coverage, efficiency and release confidence.
• Set quality metrics, dashboards and reporting, embed continuous testing and shift-left practices in CI/CD pipelines, and oversee cloud testing strategy and test environments.
• Communicate quality outcomes, risks and readiness assessments to senior stakeholders.

Required profile

• Demonstrated leadership of Functional Testing and Quality Engineering teams in complex enterprise environments.
• Strong capability in Guidewire Insurance Suite testing, including integration, API and end-to-end validation.
• Knowledge of Property & Casualty insurance processes across Quote, Policy, Claims, Billing and Underwriting.
• Experience managing testing across Agile, SAFe and hybrid delivery models.
• Proven ability to scale Playwright automation frameworks and reusable components.
• Experience driving AI-assisted testing, intelligent automation and quality engineering transformation.
• Ability to mentor QA Engineers, Senior Testers, Automation Engineers and Test Analysts.

Required skills

• Playwright, API automation, Java, Rest Assured, Jira, Xray, Azure DevOps and test management tools.
• UI, API, integration and end-to-end testing methodologies.
• CI/CD pipelines, DevOps and cloud-native or containerised environments.
• Defect management, quality KPIs and dashboards.
• Nice to have: Guidewire Cloud transformation, Generative AI and self-healing frameworks, AWS/Azure/GCP, performance testing, observability, service virtualisation, QA CoEs, and ISTQB, SAFe or cloud certifications.
