Audit Director – Data and Emerging Technology

About the role

The Audit Director – Data and Emerging Technology leads the delivery of independent, high‑quality assurance across ANZ’s data, AI and emerging technology risk landscape. Reporting to the General Manager Audit – Technology & Information Security, the role shapes audit methodology, builds capability and ensures alignment with the internal audit plan.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a risk‑based assurance strategy for data, AI and emerging technology, aligned to the approved audit plan and enterprise risk priorities.
• Act as Audit Owner for related audits, overseeing strategy, scope, risk assessment, stakeholder engagement and final outcomes.
• Provide subject‑matter expertise on data risk, establishing assurance approaches, guidance and knowledge assets.
• Lead the audit of AI and emerging technology risks, creating appropriate assurance methodologies.
• Partner across internal audit teams to embed data and technology coverage and avoid duplication.
• Oversee the full audit lifecycle, ensuring quality delivery in line with internal audit standards.
• Identify and escalate material themes, emerging risks and systemic issues, translating regulatory expectations into coverage priorities.
• Lead and develop the Data and Emerging Technology audit team, managing performance, capability and succession.

Required profile

• Extensive experience delivering audits or assurance engagements in large, regulated organisations.
• Deep knowledge of data governance, data quality, lineage, architecture and related risk controls.
• Strong understanding of AI, machine‑learning and emerging‑technology risk, including governance, ethical and regulatory aspects.
• Expert working knowledge of prudential and regulatory requirements for data and AI risks.
• Proven ability to engage senior stakeholders, provide constructive challenge and influence risk‑management improvements.
