Associate / Senior Tax Disputes Lawyer

About the role

This position offers an Associate or Senior Associate Tax Lawyer (3–7 PQE) the chance to specialise in ATO audits, reviews and tax disputes within a top‑tier practice, handling high‑value matters for sophisticated clients.

Key responsibilities

• Advise clients through all stages of tax disputes, including ATO reviews, audits, objections, submissions and negotiations.
• Manage day‑to‑day file administration, develop legal strategy, prepare technical submissions and, when required, progress matters through litigation.
• Engage directly with senior ATO decision‑makers on complex audits and disputes, and collaborate with Corporate, Property, Litigation and Private Client teams.

Required profile

• 3–7 years post‑qualification experience in tax law, preferably with exposure to corporate, international, indirect tax and private client matters.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, develop strategic approaches and build strong client relationships.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of Australian tax legislation and ATO dispute processes.
• Experience preparing objections, submissions and negotiating with tax authorities.
