Associate - Health Practice Group

About the role

HWL Ebsworth, a large legal partnership in Australia, is looking for an Associate to join its Health practice group alongside Partners Beth Altson and Angela Woodward. The Associate provides legal advice to leading medical defence insurers, including those representing public and private hospitals, medical practitioners and medical clinics.

Key responsibilities

• Manage claims and investigations from start to finish
• Provide timely and accurate written advice to insurers and insured clients
• Appear at mediations, witness interviews, inquests and disciplinary hearings
• Directly market to and engage new clients

Required profile

• Ideally 3+ years of PAE experience, or a demonstrated passion for medical indemnity, health or ancillary personal injury claims (defendant experience highly regarded)
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with insurers, corporate counsel of health entities, medical practitioners, clinic managers and other lawyers, including the Court and opposing firms
• Strong leadership skills to help develop the junior cohort
• Full working rights in Australia and a valid practising certificate
