Legal Counsel - Commercial & Regulatory

About the role

A successful ASX-listed organisation is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its in-house legal team. Reporting to the General Counsel, the role provides broad, commercially focused legal advice and works closely with business units across a diverse portfolio of legal and regulatory matters. It suits a commercially minded lawyer who wants to act as a genuine commercial partner to the business.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely, commercially focused legal advice to a range of business units
• Advise on commercial contracts, leases, marketing and promotional agreements and sponsorship arrangements
• Support corporate governance matters, including those relating to the ASX Listing Rules
• Advise on regulatory and compliance requirements across regulatory frameworks and government bodies
• Provide legal support for consumer credit, financial services and product development
• Review loan, security and ancillary documentation for enforceability and compliance
• Advise on marketing collateral and consumer-facing communications, using clear, plain-English drafting
• Support the management of escalated customer and third-party complaints
• Assist with contentious matters and litigation
• Work with the business on product development, policies, codes and legislative training
• Contribute to continuous improvement within the legal function

Required profile

• Minimum of 4 years' PQE
• Strong commercial legal experience, in-house or in a leading commercial law firm
• Experience across commercial contracts and/or financial services, regulatory or consumer law
• Excellent drafting and communication skills, able to explain complex issues in plain English
• Pragmatic, solutions-focused approach and strong stakeholder management skills
• Proactive, collaborative and able to take ownership of matters from start to finish
